1-1 Mentoring | Oasis Domestic Abuse Service

We support children and young people one a 1-1 basis by giving them weekly or fortnightly mentoring support, usually over eight to twelve weeks.

Each child works with the same support worker throughout, helping to build trust and consistency.

Support is tailored to each child, helping them manage their emotions, feel safer, build confidence and develop resilience.

Frequently Asked Questions

It’s for children and young people aged 11-18 (18-25 if the young person has special education needs and disabilities) in Kent and Medway who have experienced domestic abuse.

Mentoring is a space in which a child or young person can meet with a specialist domestic abuse mentor to navigate difficult experiences while also building on their strengths.

Our mentors  provide a safe therapeutic space to talk and process, but also make time for activities which strengthen talents and interests, enable belonging, and create opportunities for joy.

The sessions typically take place in school or community settings, for one hour a week, with holiday sessions devoted to group activities designed to encourage a love of the outdoors, such as birdwatching or fishing, creative sessions such as art workshops, or sport such as our recent day out to Canterbury Golf Club.

You can refer your child, or have them referred by another professional or service.

If you’re not sure whether mentoring is right for your child, you’re welcome to get in touch and we can have an informal conversation before you commit to anything.

1-1 mentoring is completely free to access, as are all of Oasis’ services. We’re a charity, and we never want cost to be a barrier to getting support.

If you’d like to give something back once you’re in a position to do so, we’d gratefully welcome a donation.

Activities

As part of our support for children and young people activities take place throughout the year, with more during school holidays. These include creative and outdoor activities and provide a safe and informal way for families to engage. They help reduce isolation, build confidence and support positive relationships. These activities are delivered by both our specialist Children and Young People mentors and community organisations.
