Written by Oasis supporter and speaker at the event, Amanda Nicholls of HR Solve It:

“I had the absolute pleasure of presenting at a brilliant session organised by Oasis Domestic Abuse Service, held at the at WonderWorks (Hornby) in Margate.

The venue is also home to Banksy’s Valentine’s Day Mascara, a striking and thought-provoking piece which provided a very fitting backdrop for the important conversations we had today.

Jennie Gardner opened the session by delivering a very powerful presentation about domestic abuse and what organisations can do to support employees who may be affected.

One statistic that really struck me: domestic abuse costs the UK economy around £300 billion a year. That figure alone highlights why as business owners we need to create safe and supportive workplaces for our employees.

I then had the opportunity to take the floor and talk about how employers can support women returning to work after maternity leave looking at practical, people-focused ideas to retain talent, managing risk and build a culture business owners can be proud of.

👏 A huge thanks to Oasis for shining a light on these topics and for inviting me to be part of such an impactful event.”

Oasis would like to thank Amanda Nicholls for speaking at the event, and Hornby Hobbies for hosting us.

This event is part of the Oasis ‘Professionals Series’, which seeks to increase knowledge around domestic abuse amongst a range of professional sectors. In doing so, colleagues will be equipped to spot the signs of abuse and signpost survivors effectively, helping them to receive support sooner.
