On Wednesday 25th June, Oasis is hosting a morning meet-up for HR professionals and businesses – “Supporting Colleagues in the Workplace – a Meet & Learn event”. Held at the WonderWorks in Margate and kindly supported by Hornby Hobbies, attendees of this free event will have the chance to network with like-minded businesspeople and learn about the vital role that businesses can play in supporting their employees.

We will be exploring two particular challenges that businesses should be ready to address.  Domestic abuse affects 1 in 4 women, and costs UK businesses £316 million each year. Oasis trainer Jennie will explore how businesses can play a key role in recognising, responding to, and supporting employees affected by abuse, and will provide practical tips to take away.

The real challenges faced by new mothers upon returning to work will be explored by HR Solve It’s consultant Amanda Nicholls, with practical steps that can help your business create a more inclusive, resilient workforce.

Date: Wednesday 25th June 2025

Time: 9.00am – 10.30am

Location: The WonderWorks, Margate (Hosted by Hornby Hobbies)

Cost: Free (donation suggested)

The event will include 45 minutes of presentation and learning, followed by a similar time for networking and discussion.  You will get to hear more about the work of Oasis Domestic Abuse Service and how your business can get involved in making a difference.

The event is ideal for business owners, HR professionals and anyone with a responsibility for staff wellbeing and workplace culture.  It is the latest in the Oasis ‘Professionals Series’; a range of online and in-person trainings and conferences with the aim of increasing awareness of domestic abuse and connecting with businesspeople who want to improve experiences for survivors.

We are delighted to be joined by speakers who are extremely knowledgeable in their field:

Jennie Gardner – Trainer at Oasis and former Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA)
Jennie will speak about the hidden yet significant impact of domestic abuse on the workplace and economy, and how employers are uniquely positioned to support affected staff.

Amanda Nicholls – HR Consultant, HR Solve It with nearly 30 years’ experience in the sector.
Amanda will focus on maternal mental health and the responsibility of employers to better support new mothers returning to work.

“Your approach to supporting maternal wellbeing can directly impact retention, morale, and your reputation as an employer of choice.”

Venue

We are delighted to be hosted by The WonderWorks, Margate, home of Hornby Hobbies. This iconic venue offers a unique backdrop steeped in history and creativity. Guests will also enjoy complimentary refreshments provided by Hornby. Free parking is available.

The WonderWorks is currently the venue for the Banksy artwork “Valentine’s Day Mascara”.  It is hoped that the artwork will still be in situ for the event, which will provide an intriguing and emotive backdrop to the discussion. You can learn more about the piece and its connection to Oasis in our blog post here.
